The Lightning Car Company is the British entry into the electric sports car ring with the Lightning GT. The Brits took a different approach to the design by incorporating the Hi-Pa Drive™ motor (say it fast), a compact, highly efficient, electric-wheel motor. Instead of the traditional axel drivetrain, the Lightning GT has a dedicated motor for each of the four wheels. With no gearbox, differential or axels, the torque is delivered directly to the wheels with no power loss. The power efficiency translates to 0-60 mph in just over four seconds with a top speed of 130 mph. The Lightning GT is purely electric and uses NanoSafe™ batteries that charge quickly with a 200-mile range. The Lightning GT was launched at the British International Motor Show in July and orders are currently being taken for 2009 delivery but only in the UK.
